College of Sciences Names Five New Leddy Family Scholars

Five College of Sciences freshmen and sophomores have been named Leddy Family Scholars. They bring to 11 the total number of Leddy Family Scholars.

The Leddy Family Scholarship Fund supports awards to undergraduates in the College of Sciences. In addition to a high level of academic achievement, scholarship recipients are expected to continue participation in experiential educational programs such as research, study abroad, living-learning community, service learning, outreach activities, and campus leadership. The fund is made possible by a generous donation by the family of School of Physics alumnus Jeffrey Leddy.

Following are Leddy scholars selected in early November:

• Peace Olaniran, a freshman biochemistry major from Clayton County, Georgia, who participates in the SMaRT Living Learning Community and hopes to pursue a career in healthcare in Africa. 
• Jack Peters, a freshman physics major from Birmingham, Alabama, who cofounded a scholarship foundation at his high school, which raised $6,000 through a golf tournament.
• Samuel Wiley, a sophomore physics major from Atlanta, Georgia, who sings with the Georgia Tech Chamber Choir and is a competitive bagpipe performer.
• Stephanie Wyman, a sophomore biology major from Alpharetta, Georgia, who volunteers with MedShare, a nonprofit group that distributes unused medical supplies to impoverished communities.
• Michael Zott, a sophomore chemistry major with a minor in physics from Ballwin, Missouri, who does undergraduate research with David Sherrill analyzing electronic structure computational methods, in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry.

These newly named scholars join six College of Sciences juniors and seniors who were selected to be Leddy Family Scholars in April:

• Mary Elizabeth Lee, a junior physics major from Atlanta, Georgia, who studies chaotic dynamics in the Complex Heart Arrhythmias and Other Oscillating Systems (CHAOS) lab with Flavio Fenton, in the School of Physics.
• Andrew Royappa, a junior chemistry major from Pensacola, Florida, who published three papers as a dual-enrollment student at the University of West Florida while still in high school.
• Elizabeth (Lizzie) Stubbs, a junior psychology major with a minor in biology from Suwanee, Georgia, who studies early social communication behaviors among typical and at risk-for-autism toddlers in the Georgia Tech Child Study Lab.
• Rabeea Ahmad, a senior biochemistry major from Alpharetta, Georgia, who assists in orthotics research in the Clinical Biomechanics Lab of Géza F. Kogler, in the School of Biological Sciences.
• Yash Mehta, a senior biochemistry major with a minor in Spanish from Atlanta, Georgia, who researches neurodegenerative diseases with Amit Reddi in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
• Sarah Nay, a senior psychology major from Lilburn, Georgia, who is an undergraduate research assistant in the Georgia Tech Child Study Lab and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.
