Wheeler High School Magnet Students Get Psyched!

Twenty juniors and seniors from Wheeler Magnet High School were excited to visit the Georgia Tech School of Psychology on Wednesday, November 18 as part of the College of Sciences’ “It’s all about Science and Math” program, www.scienceandmath.gatech.edu.  While on campus, Professor Jenny Singleton, Director of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Psychology, discussed the strong reputation of the program and its undergraduate degree, the state-of-the-art facilities, and how students get involved in research areas such as cognition, aging, organizational/workplace interactions, and even mind-wandering!  Students also learned about Dr. Singleton’s area of research on gaze following and other visual engagement behaviors observed in deaf and hearing children who are acquiring signed language from infancy.  Current PSYC undergraduates met with the Wheeler visitors and shared experiences about psychology classes, undergraduate research experiences, future career plans, and the great interactions with their professors.  Special thanks to Dr. Ginny Berkemeier (Wheeler HS Magnet Teacher) for help with organizing the trip to campus.
