Goals of the Conference
To celebrate the initiation of their new program in
Quantitative Psychology, the School
of Psychology will host
an international conference on "New Directions on Psychology Measurement
wit Model-Based Approaches". The purpose of this conference is to examine
the potential of model-based measurement techniques to broaden the type of
psychological constructs that can be rigorously quantified. Model-based
approaches include a wide array of item response theory methods, as well as
latent class and more general non-linear mixed models.
These models are useful for measuring complex constructs in cognition, personality,
emotions, social interactions and attitudes. Relevant assessments may involve
naturalistic observations, performance evaluations, constructed responses or
standard objectives test items. Measurement goals may be to locate individuals
on one or more dimensions, to make a cognitive diagnosis, to assess qualitative
differences between persons, to automatically generate items or to isolate
entangled constructs.
